About This Project
When aging parents needed to move closer, our clients in Wellesley chose to add a thoughtfully designed in-law suite to their home rather than seek separate housing. The result is a fully independent living space that connects to the main home through a shared hallway but provides complete privacy and accessibility for the occupants.
The Challenge
What We Were Asked to Solve
The existing home layout left limited options for a ground-floor addition. A side-yard setback variance was required, and the addition needed to remain architecturally consistent with the existing Colonial-style home while meeting ADA-accessible design standards for the occupants.
The Solution
How We Delivered
We secured the required variance and designed an addition that mirrors the roofline and exterior finishes of the main house. Inside, the 520 sq ft suite features a bedroom with a walk-in closet, a fully accessible bathroom with zero-threshold shower, a kitchenette with full-size appliances, and a private entrance to the rear yard.
