Home Addition — Wellesley, MA
Wellesley — Kitchen Addition
A 400 sq ft rear addition with open-concept kitchen and chef-grade appliances, seamlessly integrated into a classic Wellesley Colonial.
Overview
About This Project
The owners of a Wellesley Colonial wanted a kitchen that matched the scale of their entertaining lifestyle. The existing kitchen was too small and cut off from the backyard. We designed and built a 400 sq ft rear addition that opened the kitchen to a new deck and brought in natural light through oversized windows.
The Challenge
What We Were Asked to Solve
The existing kitchen sat at the back of a 1950s Colonial with a load-bearing wall separating it from the rear yard. Structural modifications were needed to remove the wall and cantilever the addition, all while keeping the family in the home during construction.
The Solution
How We Delivered
We engineered a steel moment frame to replace the load-bearing wall, opening the entire rear of the home. The addition features custom inset cabinetry, quartzite countertops, a 48-inch professional range, and a large island that seats six — creating a space that works equally well for weeknight dinners and weekend entertaining.
